Transforming Lives in PVTG Koto Panchayat, Patratu, Ramgarh

A Journey from Marginalization to Empowerment

In the heart of Jharkhand, Koto Panchayat of Patratu Block in Ramgarh district stands as a beacon of inclusive development. Home to several PVTG (Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group) families, including the Birhor community, this panchayat has long struggled with issues of isolation, poverty, and limited access to basic services.

Recognizing the urgent need for intervention, Vedannovation Foundation, in collaboration with AYUSAT Private Limited, local governance bodies, and government schemes, initiated a comprehensive development strategy tailored to the unique needs of these tribal households.

Key Interventions and Impact

1. 100% Financial Inclusion

Through dedicated efforts, all eligible PVTG families in the panchayat were enrolled in government-backed insurance schemes like:

PMJJBY (Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana)
PMSBY (Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana)

This marks a historic milestone — Koto became the first panchayat in India where all Birhor families were saturated under these schemes.

2. Access to Social Security

The project facilitated:

Linking households with ration cards, pensions, and health schemes.
Helping elderly and vulnerable individuals access old-age support and disability benefits.

3. Financial Literacy and Capacity Building

Regular awareness sessions were conducted on:

Savings and banking
Government entitlements
Digital inclusion

4. Community-Led Development

Women and youth were encouraged to participate in local governance, skill development, and entrepreneurship training, building sustainable models of livelihood.

A Model for Inclusive Rural Transformation

The success of Koto Panchayat demonstrates that with the right partnerships and people-first policies, no community is too remote to reach and uplift. The collaboration between civil society, local institutions, and government stakeholders created a replicable model for targeted tribal development.
